Lee doesnt have any standout tool but he is a bunch of above-average tools all wrapped into a nice package. The below ranks aren't the deepest that you'll find online if you need a top 100 I recommend Baseball America ($). Madden features a mid 90s fastball, above-average to plus slider, and a curve and changeup that should both be at least average, maybe 55 on the curve. Given that Bednar is a draft-eligible sophomore, there is not a long track record outside of this season. His changeup and slider are still developing pitches. His strikeout rate wasnt awful but there are concerns about his ability to make consistent contact against breakers. Shintaro Fujinami, P Oakland Athletics. After having only five rounds in the 2020 draft, this years draft was up to 20 rounds with plenty of great talent throughout. Cowser mashed 16 home runs and stole 17 bases while walking 42 times versus just 32 strikeouts. It might surprise you that Kinney had a higher max exit velocity than Jordan Lawlar. Unfortunately, Hoglund recently has Tommy John surgery, but do not let that keep you from investing in him for fantasy purposes. He's also much faster than advertised with a 29.3 ft/sec sprint speed which in the top 6% of the league. A complete prospect and total baseball rat, Lawlar had been a touted amateur as an underclassman and basically held serve as a near top-of-the-class talent for two or three years, even amid the volatility of the 2020 draft process. The ball just jumps off Fords bat thanks to his high-end bat speed. He makes consistent hard contact and controls the strike zone well. This is purely a lottery ticket this late in drafts, we havent seen him in a while. Cho has big power which he displayed at the National Power Showcase in November 2020. Hes a phenomenal athlete and the Rays drafted him, so they see something they like in him and thats enough for me. It may be 70 wheels and that should be enough to get fantasy managers salivating. If funky swings with power and speed are your thing then Brown is the guy for you. The question becomes will he ever hit enough at the pro level to tap into that power. Hoglunds changeup is an above-average pitch and gives him a solid third offering. Obviously different leagues have different rules, but Im asking here because I dont want my league to get wise. Even as a 50-grade hit tool bat, Bolte could blossom into an exciting player for fantasy purposes. If he does hit enough, think along the lines of what Jeremey Pea just did 20 homers with 10 plus stolen-bases. He may not get the power credit he deserves. They work magic on their pitchers over in Cleveland. Susac is the most recent addition, and for a catcher I think he can be a league average bat with some power. Offsetting the heater is an upper-80s slider that flashes plus and an average changeup that shows potential for more. Schultz has a deceptive delivery from a lower arm slot and has flashed a solid three-pitch mix with more projection on his frame to add additional velocity. With that power he will post solid contact-rates to go along with a patient approach that will give him a bump in OBP formats. But the upside here is a 25 homer bat who hits in the .250-.260 range with okay walk-rates and 15-20 swipes. There is a strong chance Melendez could provide 30 home runs with a serviceable batting average at the big league level. (Chris), From: Mainland Regional HS (NJ) | Drafted By: Minnesota Twins, While Jackson Jobe was the unquestioned top prep arm in this years draft class, Chase Petty isnt far behind. The power is legit, and if the improved contact sticks, he could be a steal in FYPDs. Not one tool stands out here, but Elliott could develop into a 50-hit, 50-power, 55-speed type. He has a compact, but quick swing and hits to all parts of the field. (Cross), Drafted: #21 Overall | From: North Alleghany HS (PA), Cole Young brings a lot of value to the Mariners with his glove at shortstop, but also brings a great approach to the plate. Snelling is considered by some to be a top-5 arm in this class thanks to a potential plus FB/CH combination and advanced command and control for his age. From: Eastlake HS (CA) | Drafted By: Boston Red Sox, Marcelo Mayer may have the best all-around skillset in the draft class. House made several mechanical adjustments to shorten his swing and make more contact. Regardless of whether he remains at shortstop or moves to second base, Watson projects to be a major impact bat. Think of Cermak like a less tooled up Brock Jones, and thats why he is down here. But in this scenario if you told me he never progressed past Double-A because of his hit-tool, I also wouldnt be too shocked. You could make a case for Lee having the best pure hit tool in the entire 2022 class, but the power is probably more in the 50-grade range longterm with below-average speed. Hitters; Pitchers . In his 2021 season at Wright State, Black walked 39 times while only striking out 25 times. Kudrna already possesses a great frame and has potential to grow. Xavier Isaac, 1B, Rays (ME): Isaac has power that ranked second only to Elijah Green in the 2022 prep class, but his lack of summer showcase pedigree is a concern. Neto makes consistent contact, but likely settles in with average game power in the Majors. He could even be passable at third which may help given the dearth at that position. He has shown exciting stuff, headlined by a filthy slider, but has a limited track record and is coming off Tommy John surgery. He has plus or better power and enough speed to approach double-digit steals annually early in his career. Those two are safer, but Jobe has the highest upside of any pitcher in this draft class in my eyes. (Cross), Drafted: #47 Overall | From: IMG Academy (FL), Jackson Ferris is one of my favorite arms in this class with the upside to rise up prospect rankings quickly. He does get a bit over-aggressive at times but the Coors factor should really help raise his batting average. Everything off Watsons bat seems to be loud and he could wind up as a plus-hit, plus-power bat with above-average to plus speed as well, even if he bulks up a bit. Cowser has a smooth left-handed swing and consistently finds the barrel. Hes got all the ingredients of a solid starter for you, but also has the stuff to be a nasty reliever who gets swings-and-misses which has value in deeper leagues. Like his dad, Crawford possesses elite speed and has shown a good feel for hitting already with some additional power projection in the profile. . He may ultimately shift off of shortstop but if he does its because he added more power to his profile. (Clegg), Admittedly, Im a bit higher than most on Brock Jones, but he has a very fantasy-friendly skillset. Well, Texas got it done by signing him for $3.7 million (slot value 560.2K) and now pair him with Kumar Rocker and Jack Leiter in their organization. Colliers bat really stands out with quick hands and a great feel for the barrel. (Cross), Jace Jung had an impressive college career at Texas Tech. He can catch-up to velocity pretty well for a small school bat. Dont sleep on him in your FYPDs. The first time White really focused on baseball was during the summer 2020 showcase. If you are willing to invest in prep arms for fantasy, Painter is one of the best options" . (Cross), Zach Neto wont be the flashiest player, but he will likely get a solid everyday regular. Cross is a fun prospect, I could very well see him having a bit more upside than I am letting on but he is a Royals prospect so you never know. He is a high school pitcher so that demographic is littered with misses, draft prep pitchers at your own risk. Druw Jones is the son of a possible hall of famer, and is also a good player in his own right. . Ford is also a plus runner and posted a 6.42 second 60 yard dash time. He has a chance to be an SP5 for you who posts solid ratios and moderate strikeout totals for you. He also has a cannon for an arm and when he pitches can reach 97 mph with his fastball. (Cross), A robust final season at Michigan put Clark Elliott on the map as a top-100 prospect for the 2022 draft. Rocker has a great two-pitch combo that he can carve up opposing lineups with and will also mix in a curveball and changeup as well. Top Prospects by Position Catchers First Basemen Second Basemen Shortstops Third Basemen Outfielders He eats, sleeps, & breathes baseball. Sterlin Thompson, OF Colorado Rockies. Baez swings for the fences regularly, and if he shortens the swing some and gets less erratic, the hit tool will certainly improve. He should move relatively quickly, I think at the moment I will let someone else take the chance on him, and at this price that will probably happen well before I am willing to take him. (Eric), From: Southridge HS (IN) | Drafted By: Chicago White Sox, Colson Montgomery was a basketball star in high school before really blossoming in baseball. Brown has a good feel for contact and post a high OBP but it is largely due to the lack of swings. If you arent playing your dynasty leagues on Fantrax, youre missing out on the deepest player pool and most customization around. With all that said, there is some reliever risk here due to inconsistent command and some effort in his delivery, but the upside is a #2 starter that posts elite strikeout numbers. But still, Watsons all-around offensive skillset is robust and he has the defensive skills to remain at shortstop longterm. Plus the Dodgers do well with IFAs so that is a plus. The upside here is tremendous, so if thats the type of prospect you covet in FYPDs, give Allen a long look after pick 10. It will all come down to the hit tool, which he shows solid bat-to-ball skills currently but I question how he will fare against more advanced pitchers. In addition to his power, you could make an argument that Davis is an easy plus hit tool. Player Blurbs for the Top-50 can be found below the rankings table. Currently, the hit tool is below average, but there are reasons to think he could grow into an average hit tool long term. The bat has a chance to be special. I just have questions about the hit tool, and if he cant make solid contact then the power and speed are nice but ultimately wont play as well in the fantasy game. Add in Coors Field and you have a fantasy monster waiting to happen if the hit tool and approach come around. In his final season, Franklin had 13 homers and 11 steals in 61 games. SS Kahlil Watson| Marlins| 19 2. Hes also shown a good feel for hitting and can drive the ball to all fields. He did have some strikeout issues this spring and his swing can get a tad long at times, but when he does connect, the sound off the bat is astonishing and his slight uppercut swing path creates plenty of natural loft and backspin. Ranking of 500 baseball players is . (Clegg), Drafted: #11 Overall | From: Georgia Tech, Kevin Parada may not be the strongest behind the plate but his bat will certainly play. This is the type of projectable shortstop prospect hounds dream on. (Cross), Cayden Wallace wont wow anyone with his bat, but he could be a successful big league bat. While hes a solid hitter and shortstop, Chander stands out more on the mound with a potential plus fastball and a trio of solid secondaries. He may be a high strikeout SP3 with potential for more. The reality is, no one really knows how Suzuki is going to perform in MLB. We agree about Mike Trout 's greatness, and that's about where the agreement ends. Leskos upside is immense, and it comes with a fastball that already sits mid-90s, an incredible changeup, and a dominant curveball. Fujinami is a ready-made starter that you can get later in your drafts.
